L ife Saving Equipment Repair Company, Inc. was founded in 1961 by Charles H. Roe. The company began business as a repair facility for life floats. It became apparent that the oil industry was in need of services that went beyond the repair of life floats. Before too long, Roe was set up with a sewing room manufacturing tarpaulins for Derrick wind breaks and making protective covers for equipment. Stencil machines were added for labeling life floats, equipment and boats which soon gave birth to a complete on-site sign shop equipped to create most any sign required for the offshore oil industry. Life Saving Equipment stocks a complete line of safety equipment such as life floats/jackets & rings, a large line of marine lights, inflatable Norwegian buoys, diving equipment and geophysical supplies. Twenty five years ago, Roe made a waterproof bag for a friend for use offshore. That developed by word of mouth into an international business selling bags under the logo of Tuff Bag TM. The Roe Float was developed three years ago by Roe's daughter, Charlene Gaddis. In 1986 she received approval from the U.S. Coast Guard to start production. The Roe Float is available in 5 sizes and is also listed under type approved equipment by the American Bureau of Shipping. Charlene Gaddis is now the owner and president of Life Saving Equipment.
