Meeting The Challenge Of The Northern Seas, We Are Working Today To Make Possible The Ports Of Tommorow The moody northern seas: Sparkling in summer, a flaming celebration under crepuscular skies, then lashed by the winds of winter, roiled by the incessant waves, dark under the neverending snow, silent under the drift ice stretching to the horizon - the merciless northern seas. The Cold Region Port and Harbor Engineering Research Center is meeting the challenge of the northern seas. Mobilment, the Center is pursuing and coordinating research that will bring victory over the cruel forces threatening northern ports and lead to the realization of a comfortable living and working environment for their inhabitants. We are proud of the quality of our staff and their unfailing successes! REPORTS TO GOVERNMENTAL AND PUBLIC OFFICES We are regularly consulted for the opinions of our experienced staff by governmental agencies concerned with the design, construction and maintenance of ports for northern regions. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- International Coordination Boosts A Synergistic Leap Forward: Active Exchanges On Development With Other Countries Of The Northern Regions WE ARE PROMOTING EXCHANGES ON DEVELOPMENT WITH MANY COUNTRIES OF THE NORTHERN REGIONS We at the Cold Region Port and Harbor Engineering Research Center are promoting many exchanges on development. with regions of similar climates, including countries of North America and Scandinavia. Sponsoring Overseas Tours Of Inspection We plan and participate in tours of inspection for our members to promote exchanges on development with other countries of the northern regions. SPONSORING WIDE-RANGING EVENTS FOR EXCHANGES OF INFORMATION We sponsor all manner of lectures, technical training courses and symposia to accelerate the propagation of the most significant findings and ideas for living and working in cold regions. Lectures And Training Courses We invite the most productive researchers and writers in many different related fields as lecturers and coordinators for our activities. SYMPOSIA We set themes to current concerns, and invite researchers and writers to participate in symposia. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looking To A Sparkling Future Built On The Best Of Technology MEMBERSHIP IN CENTER The Cold Region Port and Harbor Engineering Research Center has two systems of membership, individual membership and corporate membership. Our corporate members currently member 222 companies, and our individuals 544. We offer numerous benefits to membership, and welcome all qualified applicants. KEEPING OUR MEMBERS POSTED ON ALL ACTIVITIES We send two periodicals to all our members, the newsletter 'Minato no Tayori' (News from the Harbor), and a magazine 'Umi to Minato' (Sea and Harbor), providing news on Center activities and the latest developments in harbor technology. OUR LIBRARY OPEN FOR USE Our fully-equipped library, which is freely available for the use of our members, has a total of 8,000 volumes. Materials cover surveys and reports on harbor construction technology, and include the plans and specifications of all the harbor structures in Japan. There is also an easy-to-use index, which aids in quickly locating the desired information.
